Albufeira, perched on Portugal’s Algarve coast, combines the charm of a traditional fishing village with the vibrancy of a seaside resort. Its whitewashed buildings tumble down hillsides toward golden beaches and turquoise waters, creating one of the most picturesque coastal scenes in southern Europe. Once a quiet settlement, Albufeira’s roots stretch back to Moorish times, reflected in its name, derived from the Arabic “Al-Buhera,” meaning “the lagoon.” Today, its old town still retains cobblestone lanes, quaint plazas, and the relaxed rhythms of local life.

The region’s natural beauty is striking, with dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden coves, and sea caves that define the Algarve’s coastline. Praia dos Pescadores and Praia da Oura are among its most famous beaches, offering crystal-clear waters and broad stretches of sand perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Beyond the shore, visitors can explore boat tours to the Benagil Cave, stroll the scenic clifftop trails, or enjoy the region’s renowned seafood and wines.
