Landshut, since 1955 capitol of the region lower bavaria, is situated 66 km north-east of Munich in the valley of the river Isar. You can reach Landshut via the Autobahn A92 Munich-Deggendorf and via the Bundesstrassen 11, 15, 299.
With the trains of the Deutsche Bahn AG you can reach us, too. There are excellent InterRegio and EuroCity-connections from Munich, Regensburg and Passau, several times a day, and all trains stop at Landshut Main Central Station. You can also reach us via numerous bus services from the international airport Munich "Franz-Josef-Strauss", which is situated only 40 km away from the city centre of Landshut. The best known son of Landshut was born on the 5th of April, 1934 -
Romanus Ernst Georg Herzog, today the present German Federal President.

Landshut has the epithet "the three helmet city", lead back to the coat of arms of the city, which shows three helmets, like they were worn by the city guards in the middle age. The armours, produced by the so-called "plattners", were known and popular far over the frontiers of Landshut, at that time. Today at the "Royal Wedding of Landshut" the "Geharnischten" (the knights in the armours) wear copies of the works of art, in those days, which are true to the original and each of them good 50kg in weight. In the city museum in the "Residenz" you can see complete knight-armours from the workshops of Landshut.

But not only in the past Landshut played a big role. Still today it owns a lot of sights, that are quite worth visiting them. What about a walk through the city? There are three tours, just choose your favourite one! Or a breathtaking view from the world's highest brick steeple (130,6 Meter), the Martinsturm?
