Omaha, city in eastern Nebraska. The seat of Douglas County, it is a port of entry on the Missouri River, opposite Council Bluffs, Iowa. The largest city in Nebraska, Omaha is a commercial, manufacturing, and transportation center situated in a productive livestock-raising and grain-farming region. It is one of the world's largest livestock markets and meatpacking centers. Other manufactures include telecommunications equipment, food products, apparel, lumber and wood products, furniture and fixtures, paper products, chemicals, and petroleum and petroleum-related products. The city also has large insurance, banking, and printing and publishing industries.
