Darjeeling sits along a ridge in the eastern Himalaya, shaped by colonial history and long-standing ties to the surrounding hills. Established as a British hill station in the 19th century, it later became a center for tea cultivation and a meeting point for Nepali, Tibetan, Bengali, and indigenous Lepcha cultures.
